PHP History

PHP, originally known as "Personal Home Page," was created by Danish-Canadian programmer Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994 as a set of Common Gateway Interface (CGI) binaries written in C to track visits to his online resume. Over time, PHP evolved into a scripting language that allowed developers to create dynamic web content more efficiently. The official PHP parser, written by Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski, was released in 1997 as PHP/FI 2.0. The release of PHP 3 in 1998 introduced a more robust and feature-rich language, including support for object-oriented programming. With the release of PHP 4 in 2000, PHP gained widespread popularity and became one of the most popular server-side scripting languages for web development. Since then, PHP has continued to evolve, with major releases introducing new features, performance improvements, and enhanced security. Today, PHP remains a cornerstone of web development, powering millions of websites and web applications across the globe.
